Zone 7 - Eastern Alameda County Conservation Strategy
Overview
On July 18, 2007, the Zone
7 Water Agency adopted a resolution to enter into a Cooperative
Agreement for the Eastern Alameda County Conservation Strategy.
For full mintues of the adoption of the resolution, see Item 12
of
http://www.zone7water.com/images/pdf_docs/mtg_minutes/7-18-07_mtgminutes.pdf
The total cost of implementing the strategy is to be shared with
Zone 7's partners:
Advantages of a Regional Conservation Strategy:
- a blueprint for habitat conservation in the area
- a coordinated approach to mitigation for development and infrastructure
projects
- streamline the environmental permitting processes thereby decreasing
project delays
Expected benefits to Zone 7:
- provide assistance in permitting the Altamont
Water Treatment Plant and Pipeline Project
- streamline future Zone 7 environmental permitting needs
- share costs of developing environmental planning information
among entities in the area
- contribute to the focus of conservation activities in the Valley
on areas of strategic biological value
Zone 7 is working with these agencies:

Phases of Development of Strategy
Zone 7 is working with the environmental consulting firm of Jones
& Stokes in developing the Conservation Strategy. This
will take place in three phases:
Phase 1: extensive mapping of land cover, focal species,
and land use and open space data
Phase 2: conducting conservation gap and corridor analysis
and developing conservation goals and conservation priorities
Phase 3: preparation of the conservation strategy report
with a public-review period
